Trees

When you’re reading the Bible be sure to look at the forest and not just the trees. The recurring theme of trees begins in the Garden of Eden, with a tree whose fruit is laden with danger and hidden truths. We are asked to contemplate this tree again in Psalm 1, where echoes of wisdom are found in its fruit—the meditations of God. By the time we get to the Revelation of John, the Tree of Life—the tree originally in the Garden—the fruit is a source of healing for all nations. The narrative reflects the poignant climax in the New Testament, where a tree transforms from a symbol of curse to one of redemption through Christ's crucifixion. This evolution of trees in the Bible reveals a deeper message about transformation, redemption, and the enduring power of symbolism in our spiritual understanding.
