“He has told you, O mortal, what is good,
and what does the Lord require of you
but to do justice and to love kindness
and to walk humbly with your God?”
It’s easy to understand why this verse from the Prophet Micah is popular. Act right, be filled with grace. Know when to speak up (act rightly), know when to listen (love kindness). Do the right thing, be the loving person. A great reminder.
The real challenge is knowing when to extend your hand or when to extend your ear. It’s a real challenge, because the answer is as hard as the question: walk humbly before God. A humble heart, filled by God’s quiet Spirit, is the REQUIREMENT of knowing how to live a meaningful life.
I like this image because it suggests that the path that flows out of justice and the balanced scales (even though the weights are clearly uneven), is straight—both the mountains and the waters have come together to make a level way to the LORD.
